Father,
Thank You for today. The brick columns here are casting odd-looking shadows on the floor.
This feels like a dream. I'd been waking up early for several days now. And without the gravity of my quiet, grounding past-midnight hours, I feel like I'm floating through the morning routine of someone else's life.
It's a little disorienting.
With You, I can thrive in any time and place. That's why I never want to claim that I cannot function well during this hour or that. But so far, I feel like I'm most productive in the hours after midnight. Still, ever since I got this student internship, I'd been waking up early more often than usual. I wonder if I'll be able to get back to my nocturnal routine next semester when I'll resume my university classes.
So far, I can safely conclude that working in public is not fun. I can't fart, do random little dances in the middle of walking, or sing out loud without attracting attention. It's as if office hours are about making impressions on others and keeping your social stocks high. And all of that posing can be exhausting.
I want to do well in my job here, even though I know that nothing I do could possibly add any real value to the priceless gift You've given me. I hope I always remember that this world has nothing of value to me as far as I'm concerned. I don't want anything from it. No accolades, media coverage, or title can add to what I already am.
Days that feel like dreams or simulations remind me not to be too invested in seeking validation here. Nothing on this planet is slated to last forever anyway. All the establishments we've founded and things we've created could just disappear in a day, just like a dream we were so invested in can become nonsense in the blink of an eye.
Thank You for this dream-like day and for calling us out of this prison through Christ. May I serve others through whatever I do and be a bearer of Your light wherever I go.
Thank You for everything, Father.
Love,
-w
‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy.
Acts 2:17-18 NKJV
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
